The Philosophy Never Really Changed

A few weeks ago, I came across an interview I recorded seven years ago and completely forgot about.

I listened back expecting to cringe — and honestly, parts of it are hilarious. You can hear me stumbling through the first few questions trying to answer things I had never really articulated out loud before. There are keyboards clicking, traffic outside, and at one point, what genuinely sounds like a dog choking somewhere in the background.

The audio is chaotic. The thoughts are less polished than I would probably like them to be. But strangely, most of my philosophy on style hasn’t really changed.

Listening to it actually felt like a bit of a reintroduction, even to myself, and I wanted to share it with you. These arefew things that came up throughout the conversation — and honestly, still come up with my clients today.

My philosophy on style:

Style is communication before you ever speak

Clothing affects perception whether we admit it or not

The goal is never to become someone else — it’s to become more coherent as yourself

Personal style is cultivated over time, not magically “had”

Most people don’t need more clothes; they need more clarity

The person should wear the clothes, not the other way around

Great style has more to do with alignment, environment, and self-awareness than trends

One thing I noticed listening back is that even then, I was less interested in fashion for fashion’s sake and more interested in what style does for people internally — confidence, clarity, communication, identity, presence.

Anyway, if you’d like to listen, I’m sharing the interview below. It’s imperfect, unfiltered, and probably a more honest snapshot than most things I post. I’d love for you to get to know me better.

If you need help—streamlining your wardrobe or a complete style overhaul—I offer wardrobe consulting that’s both practical and elevated.

Enjoy!
